Hybrid Ferrari

In an interview with German newspaper Welt am Sonntag Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo confirmed that Ferrari is working on a Ferrari that runs on alternative energy sources. But stressed that this Hybrid Ferrari would still be very much a Ferrari as we’ve seen them rolling out of the factory over the past decades.
Lexus was the first to announce a hybrid production supercar with the Lexus LF-A sportscar. This LF-A hybrid is expected in the Lexus showrooms by 2010 - 2011. The Ferrari hybrid however won’t make it onto public roads before 2015. By 2012 Ferrari is said to have cut their CO2 emissions by 40% and a hybrid is the logical next step in bringing that number down even further in the future.
We can only speculate on where it goes from here. We know all major manufacturers are keen to get their CO2 emissions down and this also influences the development of new sportscars. Ferrari is the first major European manufacturer to announce their hybrid sportscar plans. We think it’s not a question of if, but when the others will follow…
