McLaren P11 Spied

McLaren are working on a new model to help keep their factory producing road cars after the discontinuation of the SLR project with Mercedes. The new project, codenamed P11 (a name that may possibly make it onto the production car), was spotted this week in Sweden undergoing a spot of winter testing. Although it looks far from finished, it gives us a basic view of how the car will eventually shape up. We can see that it takes heavily from the look of the iconic McLaren F1, especially in the elongated rear.

The new car is being designed to compete with the likes of Ferrari’s F430 and Lamborghini’s Gallardo which means a price tag of around £150,000 – £200,000 (€162,443 – €216,590). This will make it the cheapest and most accessible McLaren yet when it’s released for sale in February of this year. Power is to come from a Mercedes AMG-tuned 550bhp 6.2-litre V8 linked to a semi-automatic paddle shift gearbox and with the help of lightweight panels, the weight will be kept down to around 1,250kg. We should get a view of the production ready car before the end of the year if our sources are to be believed.
