Rendering Porsche 550 Spyder

Porsche executive Matthias Mueller has confirmed to German newspaper Handelsblatt that the company from Stuttgart will build a ‘modern-day’ version of the classic 550 Spyder as an entry-level model. Matthias Mueller said:

I can imagine that such a modern version of the famous ‘James Dean’ Porsche would be well-received by our customers. The new model will not be retro-styled.

Expected setup for this entry model is a new mid-engined aluminium and steel platform also used by Audi’s R4 roadster. The platform will be combined with a four-cylinder boxer 2.5 liter engine producing around 360bhp in turbocharged form.

The rumoured price tag is around € 55,000.

Stay tuned for more on the new model by Porsche.

  1. If they manage to make it proper I am for. By proper I mean slightly longer and wider Lotus Elise alike with under 1000kg weight. Everything else is just another wankers’ Porsche.

  2. god how i hate keeping the same look, my god for once just come up with brand new model, create new car from scratch and come up with new look, enough with old school look

    PLEASEEEEEE

  3. I hope this is the boxter replacement because it won’t work if they try and market both this and the boxter. And idk if any one here remembers but this is exactly what Posrche said about the Boxter when it came out in ’98….. a 356/550 for the modern era.

If they are going to make an entry level car under the boxter then Id much rather see a 944/968 succesor. Light with perfect balance and the motor in the front. It could compete with the Genesis coupe, camaro, Z, etc.
