Video Top Gear Tests 2012 Lamborghini LP700-4 Aventador

The final Top Gear episode of season 17 aired last night. One of the highlights of episode six was a review of the new 2012 Lamborghini LP700-4 Aventador. Richard Hammond drove the latest top model from the Italian company from Sant’Agata Bolognese at the Top Gear test track and wasn’t really enthusiast about the emotional characteristics of the Italian bull.

Just a small recap, the Aventador is powered by a 6.5 liter V12 with an output of 700hp and 690Nm of torque. The cars weighs just 1,575 kilograms (3,472lb) which gives it a power to weight ratio of 2.25kg/hp or (4.96lb/hp). The Lamborghini Aventador accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in just 2.9 seconds and the top speed is 350km/h.

@Shawn, some say that Chris Goodwin, the McLaren tesr driver, is the new Stig… ;) and the current Stig is way faster than the old one, which makes all those old times useless.

@Alex, you missed the point, mate. You said quote:

“Lets not forget that the Veyron SS,Gumpert and Aventador are cars made for larger tracks. The TG track is a small circuit without many points for close to top speed accelaration, that explains the Ariel Atom at the top and Caterham7 beating most of the supercars.Take the 5 first of the list to Nordschleife with Stig behind the wheel and you will see the difference.”

And I said you are wrong! The Caterhams are faster anywhere it doesn’t matter if the track is small like TG’s or large like Nordschleife, except if it’s Nardo of course.

  4. Alex says:

@Kris: Those companies (Radical etc.)have to sell cars to survive, they all started as low budget garage teams and the only way to advertise their products are lap times.
Bugatti and Lamborghini are supercar makers that get an almost infinite limit of money from VW to be used for technology advertisment, they are based on Golfs and Ibizas, these cars are ultimate best sellers for people that uses them 99%of the time on public roads.
So Caterham and Donkevoort take top stuff racers for laping the Ring while VW group supercars and Ferrari get some jackasses to test their cars for a TV advertisment clip.

i call their mc laren time BS

  6. Kris says:

@Alex, you have no idea how wrong you are. Current record holder and 2nd place holder on Nordschleife are Radical SR8LM and Radical SR8. Which are not exactly in the Veyron league. It’s more like Ariel, Caterham and company league. Donkervoort D8, which is the Dutch Caterham is on 4th place. All these cars are light weight track day cars with top speed close to 300km/h. The conclusion is simple.

Cool episode. I liked the test of the Aventador and the electric cars test roadtest was pretty funny as well. Hammnods visit of that rallye team was also quite nice. A pitty that not all episodes of this season were this good.
Anyways looking forward to the next season. :)

I watched it and I’m so disappointed it couldn’t beat the McLaren. I guess that’s only because the MP was developed on that track and was perfectly setup for it and probably on another track with both cars in road going setup the Lambo is going to be faster, but still. I cried from inside.
