SEMA 2011 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL by Foose Design

US company Foose Design, known because its owner and tuning hero Chip Foose, has tackled a very unusual project. They have created a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing for a client. This 1957 100 point car has made its debut at SEMA 2011.

Built on behalf of BASF Corporation the Gullwing was delivered to the Foose Design shop in Huntington Beach, California. The unique historical car went through a subtle, but significant customization process. Most noticeable, is the new two-tone paint job featuring BASF Glasurit Waterborne material.

The new finish combines an upper charcoal silver and lower bright silver separated by an interior matching red accent line. The separation line is still in the design phase as they wanted to focus on the elegant body lines of this classic vehicle.

Today, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL is one of the most desired vintage Mercedes-Benz models. Only 1,400 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLSs were produced between 1954 and 1957, one of which is owned by BASF.
