Over the past days we have across a special edition of the McLaren MP4-12C, named MP4-12C HS. The car was spotted at The Collection in Miami. At first, we thought that McLaren had changed the name of their Special Operation version of the MP4-12C, which is being delivered by the Special Operation program.
Instead, it is an one-off bespoke project of five cars from the McLaren Special Operations division, according to the McLaren spokesperson. After a more in-depth investigation we found out that the McLaren MP4-12C HS Edition stands for “High Sport”. There are only five of these cars in the world, and they are made for one of McLaren’s clients, who gave the name to the project. The package fitted to the car resembles the Special Operation program concept released at Pebble Beach last year, but there is more!
Information delivered to us by a visitor of GTspirit and YouTube member Philippe Fortier states that each of the cars includes an interesting package with changes. The front louvers are a performance enhancement. They move the air out that is generated within the fender of the front wheels at high speed, which normally generates lift. The cars fitted with these front louvers do not generate any lift. Instead, the HS cars generate a lot more downforce than the original one and were wind tunnel tested.
Other parts include carbon fibre high down force front end, carbon fiber high down force rear diffuser, high down force front wheel arch louvres, lightweight stealth wheels with HS style polished spokes, high down force modified airbrake calibration to compliment the increased down force of the front end, carbon fiber vented rear deck and engine cover vents, HS ”GT3 Style” contrast paint design on rear bumper, HS limited edition badge pack consisting of rear badge, dedication plates on doorcards, car cover, floor mats, and “MP4-12C HS” branded carbon sill panels. The F1–style front McLaren badge, a MSO bespoke project recognition badge, complements the package.
On the performance level the horsepower and torque were increased by a secret undisclosed amount that not even any dealership knows, but insiders whisper it is around 75 horsepower more compared to the original. Unfortunately this has not been confirmed yet.
