Mercedes-Benz looks to be working on a very special four-door version of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG as recent patent fillings reveal. As shown in the picture gallery below this is no ordinary four door as Mercedes plans to combine the famous gullwing doors with a set of rear-hinged demi doors.

According to Autoblog.com the paperwork suggests that the automaker is particularly concerned about minimizing weight gain and preserving structural rigidity, though it appears there is no fixed B-pillar present.

Mercedes-Benz declined to comment on the patented designs so the speculation is on with media colleagues around suggesting Mercedes / AMG would like to go after potential Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide buyers. In our opinion is has a high SLS AMG-meets Mini Clubman feel to it and if Mercedes would really be to design a four person version of the SLS AMG a double or extra wide gullwing door would be the only appropriate solution for it.
