The Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG complete with its rumoured V12 engine will show its face at next month’s 2012 New York Auto Show, according to Car and Driver. The release of the SL 65 AMG follows the debut of the SL63 AMG at the Geneva Motor Show last week.

Thanks to an all-aluminium bodyshell, the weight of the Mercedes SL 63 AMG has been reduced by 125 kilograms. With kerb weight of 1,845 kilograms and an output of 537hp or 564hp (with the AMG performance package), the new model has a powerful power to weight ratio. It is unknown what powertrain the SL 65 AMG will use under the hood, but we expect a higher performance and a slightly higher weight with respect to the SL 63 AMG.

Pricing should start in the $ 200,000 range. Deliveries of the SL65 and the V8–powered SL63 are scheduled to start in July.
