Lotus has already received 400 confirmed orders for the new Exige S. The British car maker released their Exige S at the 2011 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show and the roadster was recently unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. According to Lotus, the Exige S represents the very essence of the British car maker – lightweight performance combined with fine handling characteristics.

The Lotus Exige S weighs only 1,080kg and is powered by a mid-mounted, supercharged 3.5 liter V6 engine which puts out 350 horsepower and 400Nm of torque. This enables the lightweight sports car to accelerate from nought to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds, while the 160km/h is reached within 7.9 seconds. The Exige S has a top speed of 274km/h.

The open version of the Lotus Exige S accelerates to 100km/h in four seconds and hits the 160km/h in 8.5 seconds. The top speed for the Exige S Roadster is 233km/h.

Deliveries of the Exige S will start later this year and will be available in the United States as a track-only car due to airbag restrictions. Sales of the roadster are also expected to begin throughout Europe later this year. There are currently no plans to offer it in the United States.

  1. I can’t understand pre-ordering a car that no journalist has ever reviewed. It could be ridiculously flawed in a way that even big manufacturers find out, like a penchant for self-immolation, or an incline for deploying airbags just for the lulz.
