The 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang is the most powerful Mustang ever made. The American pony car was first unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November and the convertible version joined the stable at the Chicago Auto Show last February.

Now Ford has finally announced the pricing details for the Shelby GT500 coupe and convertible that will be making their way to dealerships later this year. Pricing starts at $ 54,200 for the coupe and $ 59,200 for the open version. These prices do not include a $ 795 destination fee which results in a total price tag of $ 54,995 and $ 59,995 respectively.

The Ford Shelby GT500 is almost ten percent more expensive than the 2012 model, the increase is a $ 5,390. But the pricing of the coupe is on par with its main competitor, the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe which is also available for $ 54,995.

The supercharged 5.8 liter V8 engine of the Shelby GT500 produces up to 650hp together with 814Nm of torque. Its direct competitor, the Camaro ZL1, comes with only 580 horses under the hood. The power is transferred to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. The Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang coupe has a top speed of 320km/h, while the convertible is limited at 250km/h.

To further boost the performance Ford offers an optional $ 3,495 SVT Performance Package which includes a Torsen differential, unique 19 inch wheels at the front and 20 inch at the rear, Bilstein adjustable dampers, updated rear springs, a unique shift knob and a gauge cluster. Also optional are a glass roof, interior electronics package, audio system, racing seats and much more.

The GT500 Mustang is available in eight exterior colors and three different trims for the inside. The first coupes will be delivered this May, the convertible will hit the showrooms this summer. On the website of the American car maker you can build your desired Ford Shelby GT500.
