This is an official film featuring the first round of the 2012 Aston Martin GT4 Challenge of Great Britain. The one car GT4 series is now in its third year of competition and the Silverstone race track was their first stop.
A wet track meant that the teams and the drivers had challenging race conditions and an interesting start to the 2012 series with the car driven by Pierre Mantello & Olivier Bouche coming out on top with 75 laps of the historic circuit completed.
Based on the Vantage S road car, Aston Martin GT4 race cars feature a 445bhp engine with paddle-shift transmission, these cars have a 50:50 weight balance and driver aids such as race-developed ABS and traction control.
The Vantage GT4’s new splitter increases downforce at the front of the car, as well as channelling cooling air to the brakes and radiator. At the rear, the car gains the V12’s larger boot ‘flip’. This works together with a new carbon fiber diffuser and rear underfloor.
The racing calendar for the series is 28 April – Silverstone (National), 12 May – Oulton Park (International), 4-5 June – Brands Hatch (Indy), 14-16 June – Aston Martin Le Mans Festival, 13-14 July – Brands Hatch (Grand Prix), 29 July – Donington Park, 14-15 Sept – Spa-Francorchamps and 29 Sept – Snetterton 300.
