German car brand Audi has won the 40th edition of the Nürburgring 24 Hours. The number 3 Audi R8 LMS Ultra of Basseng/Haase/Stippler/Winkelhock and team Phoenix Racing finished today on the first place ahead of Mamerow Racing’s number 26 Audi with drivers Mamerow/Abt/Ammermuller/Hahne. The two Audis were joined on the podium by the number 66 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 driving by Frankenhout/Simonsen/Kaffer.

The podium was decided in the final moments of the race after pole-winning number 19 BMW Z4 GT3 (Team Schubert) dominated the first half of the race and number 65 Mercedes-Benz SLS (Hankook-Team-Heico) had to stop the race a few laps before the end.

The number 3 Audi R8 LMS Ultra took the chequered flag after completing 155 laps of the Nordschleife (3,933.59km). Phoenix Racing is still the most successful team round the Nordschleife, while its partner Michelin notched up its 12th victory at the ‘Green Hell’ since 1998.
