Rumours: Mercedes-Benz SLC AMG to be Shelved

Just a couple of weeks ago we saw some spyshots of the Mercedes-Benz SLC, which should rival the Porsche 911. Back in February it was reported Mercedes would give AMG the green light to develop the smaller version of the SLS AMG. But now it appears development of the new sports car, sometimes referred to as the ‘Baby SLS’ might be shelved.

According to Auto Motor und Sport the SLC project might be cancelled due to financial considerations. The German magazine refers to sources within Mercedes-Benz, who allegedly claim the new sports car would become too expensive. It’s not sure whether this refers to the development costs, or the estimated price tag of the final product.

The whole project is currently being reconsidered which implies its scheduled debut in 2014 is unsure. But on the other hand, these kind of rumours aren’t uncommon so we’ll have to wait and see.
