Australian-based company Carbon Revolution has officially released their new CR9 rim. It is the world’s first one-piece production carbon fiber wheel.

The carbon wheel is 40-50 percent lighter compared to conventional aluminum wheels and exceeds OEM standards. According to the company, carbon fiber wheels are the next major evolution in automotive as well as aerospace wheel development.

Information from the Australians states that fitting the CR9 to existing vehicles will have a positve influence on fuel consumption of 2-4 percent and CO2 emissions. Specific aerodynamic wheel designs will be increase the efficiency up to five percent, and a full integration, in cooperation with the vehicle manufacturer, can yield an improvement of six percent or more.

Carbon Revolution also released that their new lightweight wheel meets all known OEM and Certification Body requirements. These include SAE 2530, TUV German Aftermarket and German OEM AK-LH 08 standards.

Customers interested can choose for sizes 19×8.5 and 19×12 with a wider range of sizes and fitments released on the market soon. The wheels are compatible with factory tire pressure monitoring systems. Prices have not been released.

  1. It still doesn’t have the elasticity that aluminum alloy has. Just like magnesium wheels, these might be throw away rims, meaning they will eventually fracture.
