Lexus has confirmed its plans to officially unveil the brand new 2014 Lexus IS Series at the upcoming Detroit International Auto Show in January.

The 2014 IS is reported to be based on the same underpinnings as the Japanese automakers current GS model range. Although you can expect the chassis to be shortened to accommodate softer springs and stiffer anti-roll bars. Interior accrutements will be styled heavily after the popular CT200h, providing a “more luxurious feel” for the passengers.

Lexus revealed the LF-CC concept at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, of which the new IS is based upon. However, in a press release Lexus encouraged the idea that the IS would be “completely redesigned” in comparison to the LF-CC concept, while still borrowing many its best design elements.

British magazine Autocar recently had the opportunity to drive a pre-production version of the 2014 IS Hybrid. In UK spec, the 2014 IS is expected to get to 60mph in just under seven seconds, when ordered in the hybrid variant. The 2.5 liter four-cyliner gasoline engine in the hybrid produces an estimated 250hp enough for a top speed of around 140mph. No word on the performance of other models. A V6 variant will be offered, but details are scarce as to what power output prospective buyer will be treated to.

Lexus will unveil the 2014 IS range on January 15th, 2013. You can view a live broadcast of the unveil on on Lexus.com, if you are so inclined.
