The Czech Republic has never been a country renowned for producing lightweight track day toys, but Czech racing firm Praga Cars has bucked that unfortunate trend recently unveiling the first details, images and a nice video of their brand new Praga R1 track-only sports car.
The whole idea behind the Praga R1 is to capitalise on the booming track-day market and features a Renaultsport-sourced, 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine pumping out 210hp at 7,500rpm. While such a horsepower figure is nothing to brag about, the entire car tips the scales at just 590kg, making it one of the lightest track day vehicles on the market.
Consequently, the R1 has a power-to-weight ratio of 356hp per tonne and all of this raging power is sent through the rear wheels via a six-speed Hewland JFR sequential transmission with a self-locking differential and pneumatic control. All sounds very fancy.
Praga was able to achieve such a lightweight car through the extensive use of carbon fiber, with the R1 featuring a monocoque made of the stuff which also features built-in crumple zones. The Praga R1 also features a safety racing fuel tank, fire extinguisher and racing harnesses.
It’s currently unclear if and how many tracks across Europe the Praga R1 will be able to tackle but it will carry a sticker price of 98,000 euro.
Only 3 out of 13 picture is the real car , others is the rendering … they looks better in the rendering ; but then this car is more functional than looks .
saw the “actual” prototype on the other website and it looked pretty ugly. lets hope the production version will look as good as the renderings…
Bring the real car that looks like the rendering, then I’ll never call it ugly.
