Sketch of Toyota FT 86 Open

A few months ago we told you of how Toyota was planning to show the convertible version of the GT 86 at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Toyota has now confirmed that the GT86 Convertible will make it to the show in the form of a new concept called the Toyota FT86 Open.

Early reports suggest that Toyota will use a folding fabric roof rather than a hard-top in order to save weight while the suspension is likely to be slightly softer to deal with lower body stiffness. The cabriolet, particularly important for the US market, will retain the coupe’s 197bhp normally aspirated 2.0 liter engine.

Due to the added weight and despite its similar engine, the topless version will see its 0-60mph time increase. While the FT86 Open concept is, as the name suggests, simply a concept at the moment. Many expect it to go on sale in early 2014 at a price of £26,000.
