Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG Edition 1

Ahead of the Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG official release at the Geneva Motor Show 2013, AMG have released the Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG Edition 1. It follows in the footsteps of the Mercedes-Benz CLA Edition 1. Mercedes-Benz appears to be carving a new niche for special edition launch models. The A 45 AMG gets a variety of special features.

All the parts you see on the Edition 1 are available on the series production models. The Edition 1 gets a complete AMG Aerodynamics package consisting of an AMG rear aerofoil, additional flics to the front apron and a larger front splitter.

Cosmetic upgrades include an AMG carbon-fibre exterior mirror housing, AMG Exterior Carbon-Fibre package, a front splitter, a set of side sill panel inserts and trim on rear apron in genuine carbon fibre. The rear gets an AMG aerofoil, an AMG Exclusive package and a set of AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels in 8 x 19 fitted with 235/35 R 19 tyres. They come finished in two variants, either painted in titanium grey with high-sheen finish or in matt black with high-sheen rim flange.

Also included is an AMG Night package with privacy glass, black anodised waistline trim strip, black tailpipe trims in chromed finish, radiator fins in silver chrome, high-gloss black painted finish for front splitter, exterior mirrors, side sill panel inserts and rear apron trim.

Final upgrades include an AMG Performance exhaust system with tailpipe trims in a specific design, AMG Performance suspension with tauter spring and damper tuning, an AMG Performance steering wheel and E-SELECT lever, electronic key with AMG emblem. Inside, AMG Performance seats are fitted and AMG wheel bolt covers provide a central-locking look alongside red painted callipers.

One of the main advantages for Edition 1 models, aside from the cosmetic upgrades, is the fact that they tick almost all of the options for a lower price than the standard edition.

Of course, underneath, the Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG Edition 1 is the same as any other A 45 AMG. It features a twin-scroll turbocharged 2.0 liter codenamed M133 and based on the Daimler 2.0 liter turbocharged power plant. It develops a maximum output of 360hp and up to 450 Newton metres of torque. The Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG accelerates from zero to 62 mph in 4.6 seconds, while its top speed stands at 155 mph which is electronically limited. It features the AMG Speedshift DCT seven-speed dual clutch transmission and a rear differential.

Hopefully we’ll get to see the Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG Edition 1 alongside its serial edition counterpart at the Geneva Motor Show 2013, opening at the start of March.
