2013 is shaping up to be a year chock full of motorsports for British automaker Aston Martin.

Earlier this week, Aston confirmed their plans to form a one-make GT3 Cup series. The series will be similar in construction to other one-make championships put on by the likes of Ferrari and Porsche. This spin-off championship will be an invitational class within the already competitive Aston Martin GT4 Challenge of Great Britain.

For its first year after inception, the series will opt to run solely in the United Kingdom, with further expansion possible dependent upon demand. As of now, both the Aston Martin DBRS9 and newer Vantage GT3 are both eligible for competition.

Race distances are set at either 100 minutes or 100 laps, whichever comes first. The 100 lap, 100 minute distance is in commemoration of Aston Martin’s centenary anniversary.

The first round of the championship will occur on April 6 at the famed Silverstone circuit. Subsequent rounds will be held at Donington Park on June 1st and Brands Hatch on July 7.
