British GT Oulton Park Race Two

The second race of the round at Oulton Park with the same three contenders for Race one at the start of the grid. All cars stormed up to the first corner and made it through, a vast contrast to the hustle and bustle in Race one.

Pole position runner No 3 Rosso Verde Ferrari 458 Italia had already pulled a gap of 0.714 ahead of No 31 Trackspeed Porsche 997 GT3 R with a gap of 0.714 seconds in only four laps. No 007 Beechdean had managed to stay in third position following on from the cars retirement in race one after the crash it was involved in.

Eight laps in and smoke was seen out the back of the Mtech Ferrari 458 Italia, two laps later and the Ferrari had to pit so that the team could investigate the issue. The car had to retire from the race eleven laps in. The leader of the race No 3 Rosso Verde Ferrari 458 Italia had a lead of just under 1 second and with each lap seemed to pull away.

Another team facing smoke from the car was the No 6 PGF-Kinfaun AMR Aston Martin Vantage GT3 due to a power steering problem. The pit window opened with thirty three minutes remaining and unlike last race many drivers choose to stay out on track longer. Each team has a ten minute window in which to complete the pit stop and change of drivers.

At the half way point in the race the drama and excitement seems far more contained, when compared to race one. The front runners of the race are different to race one. Another retirement happened at mid-race point was No 6 PGF-Kinfaun AMR Aston Martin Vantage GT3 this left the total running on track at twenty seven. Top three had remained the same from the start. No 3 Rosso Verde Ferrari 458 Italia lead 21 laps in ahead of 31 Trackspeed Porsche 997 GT3 R, with a lead of 1.158 seconds. No 007 Beechdean Aston Martin Vantage GT3 a full twelve seconds behind in third.

Once the pit lane had closed and all cars had pitted there was a slight shake up at the top of the leader board. No 31 Trackspeed Porsche 997 GT3 R lead by 0.357 ahead of No 007 Beechdean Aston Martin Vantage GT3 and No 25 United Autosports Audi R8 LMS Ultra in third position. No 3 Rosso Verde was nearly seven seconds behind in fourth.

No 18 FF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 suffered a drive through penalty for an unsafe release from the pits with only seventeen minutes remaining. The car was running in eighth position but after his penalty dropped to ninth.

The Ginetta G55 pulled off track near the start finish line and caught alight, this meant that the safety car was unleashed to the track.

British GT at Oulton Park

Within a few laps No 007 Beechdean Aston Martin Vantage GT3 fell down to twentieth position after a spin on track and comes into the pits . Times being set started to slow down due to oil on track. With eleven minutes left of the race the cars stayed behind the safety car due to the Ginetta’s fire still being dealt with. Two Ginetta’s on fire across both races, there must be something wrong in set up somewhere.

With four minutes remaining the lead was still held by No 31 Trackspeed Porsche 997 GT3 R, second was taken by No 25 United Autosports Audi R8 LMS ultra. Third was No 27 Vita4one Ferrari 458, Privateer team No 79 Ecurie Ecosse BMW Z4 GT3 in fourth.

Two minutes remaining and the safety cars lights turn off and pulls in. Leaving the remaining cars on track to have a two minute dash to the finish line. The leaders advantage had dropped and the field had bunched up behind the safety car.

One last lap for the leading duo to battle it out. The win went to No 31 Trackspeed Porsche 997 GT3 R but No 25 United Autosports Audi R8 LMS ultra tried to get in front but was unsuccessful, finishing the race in second. Third place went to No 27 Vita4one Ferrari 458, fourth to No 79 Ecurie Ecosse BMW Z4 GT3 and No 3 Rosso Verde Ferrari 458 Italia in fifth.
