Infiniti Supercar Coming by 2018

Infiniti is set to be the latest automaker to enter the supercar realm with its new halo supercar reportedly planned for a 2017-2018 launch. With a launch still so far away, Infiniti, which operates as the luxury division of Nissan, has yet to decide whether I’ll be front or mid-engined.

Infiniti’s European boss, Fintan Knight recently said, “We are still evaluating the layout. It is still on the table for a decision. The same goes for the powertrain.” Consequently, the design of the new Infiniti supercar is still underway but it’s likely to maintain cues and design elements previously found on the Infiniti Essence and Infiniti Emerg-e concept cars.

Thanks to Infiniti’s ongoing sponsorship of Red Bull Racing’s Formula One team, significant engineering and development is set to be undertaken by Red Bull Racing’s engineering team. Because of their ongoing tie-up, the future Infiniti supercar could feature a V6 petrol engine mated to an electric engine similar to those being used in the 2014 Formula One season.
