Honda has announced a race version of their new NSX. The NSX Concept-GT is built to compete in the GT500 class of the wildly popular Japanese Super GT championship.

In a rather surprising move, Honda has confirmed the Concept-GT will contest the fifth round of the championship at Suzuka this weekend. Power in the race version of the NSX comes from a 2.0-liter direct injection turbocharged four-cylinder (try saying that five times fast). As per Super GT regulations, the inline four-cylinder is assisted by a hybrid system.

Little information was provided with the release apart from what we have mentioned above. It will be interesting to see how the car does in its first race outing, especially on such short notice.

Meanwhile, the street-legal version of the NSX continues development on a steady path for its 2015 release date.
