After recent leaks, the brand 2015 Subaru WRX STI has been revealed in all of its blue and gold glory, a colour combination synonymous with STIs of the past, at the ongoing Detroit Motor Show 2014.

Set to be initially available as a WRX STI Launch Edition, the first 1,000 units produced will feature the same WR Blue paint matched with gold BBS forged alloy wheels you see in the gallery below. Additionally, the STI Launch Edition with feature custom unique trim.

However, the most eagerly anticipated part of the new 2015 Subaru WRX STI has to be its engine. Under the hood is a 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer engine delivering a total of 305 hp at 6,000 rpm and 290 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. This engine employs the Dual Active Valve Control system and is teamed with a specifically reinforced 6-speed manual transmission. An STI specific short shifter comes standard on the WRX STI Launch Edition.

This power is sent through all four wheels via Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive complete with Subaru’s new Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD). This transmission features three different automatic modes with each employing varying degrees of center differential locking depending on the driving situation.

Additionally, the 2015 Subaru WRX STI features Active Torque Vectoring which can apply brake pressure to the inside front wheel to result in more neutral cornering. This system works in conjunction with the vehicle dynamics control system offering three settings of ‘VDC Normal’, ‘Traction’ and ‘Off’ (!).

From a design front, the 2015 Subaru WRX STI features a much more aggressive bodykit when compared to the already eye-catching WRX. Some of these new styling changes include a completely aluminium hood to reduce weight over the front of the car. It also includes narrower headlights as well as Subaru’s traditional hexagonal grille. It also debuts new LED low-beam headlights.

Thanks to the extra one-inch longer wheelbase, the new 2015 Subaru WRX STI features a roomier cabin. It includes a more raked windscreen, wider-opening doors as well as rear leg room being increased by an impressive two inches. Additionally, trunk capacity is up from 11.3 cu.ft of the previous generation STI to 12 cu.ft.

For the driver, we have a flat-bottomed leather wrapped, telescoping steering wheel integrating audio and Bluetooth functions. Further interior trim include a 4.3-inch LCD screen displaying a multitude of vehicle functions as well as a boost gauge display, rear camera display and audio functions. However, an optional 6.1-inch LCD screen is available which incorporates navigation.

Pricing details for the 2015 Subaru WRX STI have yet to be released.
