Official: 2015 Ferrari California T

Following three leaked images less than 1 hour ago, the 2015 Ferrari California T has officially been revealed! The second-generation Ferrari California not only combines a thoroughly revised design both inside and outside, but as previous reports suggested, features a brand new engine.

First and foremost, the Ferrari California T comes fitted with a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 engine, with the ‘T’ in the name standing for ‘Turbo’. This engine is closely related to the same unit available on the latest Maserati Quattroporte. However, for the Ferrari California T it has received a significant power boost and now delivers an impressive 552 hp at 7,500 rpm and a mega 755 Nm of torque at a relatively low 4,750 rpm. As a result, the new California T can launch from a standstill to 100 km/h in a mere 3.6 seconds. The car then continues to accelerate to its top speed of 316 km/h.

The new Ferrari California T measures 4,570 mm in length, is 1,910 mm wide and just 1,322 mm high. All up, the new Ferrari GT car tips the scales at 1,625 kg and has a weight distribution of 47 per cent at the back and 53 per cent at the front. Considering a massive V8 is up front, this weight distribution is quite impressive indeed. Despite its fairly heavy weight and massive power, the 2015 Ferrari California T can sip a mere 10.5 litres of fuel per 100 km.

Also new for the second-generation California is a new dual-clutch F1 transmission courtesy of Getrag. Providing seamless shifts, this gearbox will inevitably be much better than the system from the outgoing California and is set to be world class. Other performance components include a new carbon ceramic braking system from Brembo as well as sticky Bridgestone tyres as standard.

Visually, the Ferrari California T has clearly taken design inspiration from the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and Ferrari FF. While the FF, 458 Italia and F12 all feature very similar headlights, the California T’s are very unique while still fitting in line with Ferrari’s current design language. Along with the new headlights is a completely new front fascia with a new bumper, redesigned grille, new hood with dual air outlets and redesigned, curvy, dual air intakes.

From the side, the Ferrari California T maintains a similar shape to the outgoing model, albeit significantly lower and much sleeker. Thankfully, it also features a folding hardtop like the first-gen California which now folds in just 14 seconds. Moving to the rear, the 2015 Ferrari California T features a significantly more aggressive rear diffuser combined with more traditional quad exhausts unlike the stacked ones of the current car. The taillights remains similar, but now feature incorporated reversing lights meaning the car can ditch the separate triangular reverse lights of the current California.

In the cabin, the new California is upgraded and features a new 6.5 inch touchscreen along with a host of console buttons inspired by those of the F12 Berlinetta. The steering wheel remains similar and features all the buttons and of course the manettino switch of recent Ferraris.

The car is expected to debut publically at the Geneva Motor Show 2014 in early March!

  1. I approve. Had the chance to drive it and it felt really slow, I believe this new engine/transmission combo is a great thing for the California. Designwise, I believe they've improved it too, it seems more stylish.
