Gallery: Race Retro 2014

Race Retro 2014 was held this weekend 21st-23rd February at Stoneleigh Park. This year the halls were celebrating the 50th Anniversary of McLaren’s 1974 double championship win and the 30th Birthday of the Metro 6R4 rally car. The Metro celebrations could also be see at the Live Rally Stage. This year special guests included Quentin Wilson, Norman Dewis and Sir Stirling Moss

Sir Stirling Moss participated in autographing sessions for the visitors of the show as well as making an appearance at the Listers Cars stand. He posed for photographs alongside the Lister Jaguar 3.8 ‘Knobbly’ sports racing car. Listers Cars announced in September 2013 that it would once again be producing the legendary ‘Knobbly’ sports car.

The 50 Years of McLaren celebration was one of the first things we saw as we entered the show With the central feature being the McLaren M23 F1 which took the 1974 F1 double win. Also Alongside the winning car was a McLaren M8 Can-Am challenge car and the 240mph McLaren F1 Supercar that enjoyed victory at Lemans 24 hours in 1995.

The winter challenge start line at Race Retro had twenty classic cars ready to leave the show on 23rd to head on a 2000 mile journey across Europe. The five day event which is organised by the Classic Rally Association (CRA), will take drivers to Monte-Carlo.

Silverstone Auctions were also in attendance where many owners pride and joys were for sale. The auctions included Eddie Stobart liveried 1977 Ford Escort MK2 RS1800 Gp4 Rally Car the1992 Honda NSX used by the legendary F1 world Champion Ayrton Senna. This years auctions is the biggest to take place at Race Retro and for the first time the auctions had to be held over two days. One car under the spotlight at the auction was the 2000 Ford Mondeo BTCC Super Tourer with an guide estimate of £100,000-120,000. Alongside the Mondeo was a stunning Red 1992 Ferrari 330 Noble P4.
