2014 Porsche 911 GT3 Could be Halted for Months

A few weeks ago, it was confirmed that deliveries of the 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 were suspended and current owners asked to not drive their cars following a spate of fires in Europe. Now however, it has emerged that the latest GT3 could remain off the road for a few more months.

Two official fires were reported and according to reports, they were caused by the cracking of the engine block which leaked oil on the exhaust system and resulting in the car catching fire. However, Porsche has yet to confirm or deny these rumours.

While discussing the current investigations, Porsche spokesman Paul Ellis said, “Given the high performance nature of the engine and sophisticated componentry and engineering, it’s a situation where you have to evaluate every situation to the minute level to make sure you don’t miss anything.

“The engineers suspect what may be causing us not to drive the cars at the moment, but suspecting is not as good as 100 percent guaranteeing so we’re in the process now of eliminating everything we think its not and focusing on what it may be – and that is going to take time.

“Identifying the issue is one thing, but undergoing comprehensive testing to ensure the remedy has solved the problem is another. And it depends on what the remedy is; if it is an electronic software issue then it is much easier to implement than a mechanical component of the engine, especially given the GT3 is essentially a race engine.”
