Top Gear Season 21 Burma Special Part 2

Top Gear Season 21 Burma Special Part 2 is set to air tonight and continuing on from episode 6 and the Burma Special Part 1 which aired last week.

As we learnt last week, the Top Gear Season 21 Episode 6 saw the trio being challenged to cross Burma (officially named Myanmar) and to ultimately build a bridge over the River Kwai. Making this Top Gear special even more unique is the fact that James May, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond are tackling the tricky driving conditions in three trucks.

Last week, the team began their journey in Yangon, the capital city of Burma and headed up into the Shan State. During Top Gear Season 21 Episode 6 last week, the team each had their respective trucks customised mid-way through to make them more comfortable and much better well suited to living in throughout the journey.

Tonight, Top Gear will continue their journey through the Shan state, an area generally closed off to western television crews and currently rife with civil war. The driving will continue towards Thailand when James, Jeremy and Richard are tasked with building a bridge over the River Kwai as their final challenge.

For those that are not aware, The Bridge Over the River Kwai was immortalised in Pierre Boulle’s 1952 novel and later in a 1957 British-American World War II film. Whilst the book and film are largely fiction, both are based upon the actual building of the Burma-Siam railway by the Japanese. The bridge itself was constructed in 1943 by Commonwealth, Dutch and American prisoners of war.

Don’t forget to tune in to BBC 2 at 8pm tonight (16 March 2014) Top Gear Season 21 Burma Special Part 2.
