WRC: Sebastien Ogier Wins Fafe Rally Sprint in Portugal

Sebastien Ogier won the Fafe Rally Sprint 2014 in Portugal this past weekend after missing the event in 2013 due to an illness. Fafe Rally Sprint is always held a few days before the main Rally Portugal, which kicks off on April 3rd. Ogier finished a half second faster than Ford Fiesta RS driver Ott Tanak placing him in second. Third place went to the 2013 Fafe Rally Sprint winner Dani Sordo who was driving a Hyundai i20.

Attracting more than 100,000 spectators, Fafe Rally Sprint began 3 years ago and takes place on the legendary Fafe-Lameirinha stage near Porto in the north of Portugal. Drivers are now focused on Rally de Portugal which is one of the most interesting rounds of the year. This will be the fourth round after successfully completing rounds in Monte Carlo, Sweden and Mexico.

Ogier siad;

That was a amazing experience, the Portuguese WRC fans are about the most passionate in the world, so as a little thank you we drove with the Portuguese flag on the car and that seemed to go down well.

The event itself was an incredible experience. On some parts of the stage you couldn’t see the landscape – only people! The stage is very demanding and the famous jump really is huge. Events like this are definitely a benefit for the rally sport and for sure next year we will not miss it!
