2015 BMW X5M Spotted With Less Camo at the Nürburgring

BMW introduced its third-generation X5 SUV last year, but never got around to dropping the all-new high performance M version along with it. Thankfully that model is coming soon and it has just been spied testing at the Nurburgring ahead of its on sale date later this year.

The spy photos show the X5 M with a minimal amount of camouflage around the lower bumpers and sections of the rear hatch. It will retain much of the current X5 M’s styling, with larger air dams in the front bumper, flared fenders and a quad exhaust set up integrated into the lower rear diffuser. It is also expected to utilize a special M version of BMW’s signature ‘Air Breather’ vents behind the front fenders, as seen on the BMW M4.

As far as the powertrain goes, the new X5 M is expected to retain the same 555 horsepower, twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 from the outgoing model. The engine, which is also used in the BMW M5 F10, will most likely be updated to produce the same 560 horsepower as in the M5. An optional competition pack could be offered, which would bump output to around 570 horsepower.

The new X5M, along with the more rakish X6 M, are expected to go on sale in fourth quarter of this year as 2015 models. In addition to the performance enhancements, fuel economy and C02 emissions will both be improved.
