Powerful Bentley Mulsanne Variant Coming to Paris

The range-topping Bentley Mulsanne is set to receive a more powerful version thanks to Bentley’s ongoing GT3 racing results according to new reports from Auto Express.

It is suggested that the performance oriented variant of the luxurious Bentley Mulsanne could arrive as soon as the Paris Motor Show 2014 in October. According to company insiders, the great reception to the track-oriented Bentley Continental GT3-R at the Goodwood Festival of Speed has convinced the British firm to produce more performance models.

The souped-up Mulsanne should retain the current car’s 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. However, a boost of 45 hp from 505 hp to 550 hp is likely with the power increase possibly resulting in a sub-5 second sprint to 100 km/h.

Alongside modifications to the powerful engine, there is a good chance that some weight saving measures will be employed to make the car makes the most of its power gains. Additionally, tweaks to the chassis are expected to improve the handling of the very heavy car.

Because the high-performance, extreme-luxury market hasn’t really been tapped into, a more powerful Bentley Mulsanne wouldn’t have any real rivals bar the three-door Rolls-Royce Wraith. As a result, the automaker could unlock a pandora’s box of customer interest.

Expect to hear more about this potential variant in the coming weeks and months.
