At 5:00 a.m. we were told to meet at an A&W in North-West Calgary for the start of this year’s Rocky Mountain Adventure. The pitch black surroundings were the perfect cover for our supercar posse to meet before heading out onto some exhilarating stretches of road for the day.

The cars began showing up led by a black Audi R8 V10 on ADV.1 wheels. The growl of its Capristo exhaust echoed through the parking lot. The rest of the cars arrived over the next half hour. From a Porsche 911 GT3 to a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, the cars were as diverse as their drivers. From as far as Edmonton, Regina, Kelowna and Vancouver, young investment bankers, seasoned doctors, lawyers, businessmen and more were all present, but their love of cars and the open road was the bond that brought them all together.

After receiving a safety briefing from Zahir Rana, we headed to our cars for the start of the drive. We began our day riding along in Zahir’s matte candy-apple green 714 hp Porsche 911 by Sportec.

We headed West out of the city under the cover of darkness. Our high-speed caravan made its way through the hills, heading up a series of side-roads in what was truly an exciting adventure.

Zahir’s Porsche was lightning quick, passing many of the other cars along the way. After a few hours of driving we stopped off for gas and we changed cars from Zahir’s Porsche to a brand new Jaguar XKR-S GT.

The roar of the engine as we tore our of the parking lot was exhilarating. We followed the 1500 hp Lamborghini Gallardo through some twisty roads, picking up a few Porsches and another Gallardo in our small convoy.

Somehow we fell behind the main group at the fuel stop, so it was time to make up some ground. With our scout vehicle, a 600 hp Hennessey Velociraptor, in sight, we were given the all clear over the radio.

We caught up with the lead group, who had stopped off at the glacial ice fields for a photo opportunity. With our group of 25 cars back to gether, we headed on to the next fuel stop.

We changed cars once again to an Audi R8 V10 with possibly the most brutal sounding Capristo exhaust. This car was smooth, yet very fast. We convoyed with a Gemballa/Techart Porsche 911, two Ferrari 458 Italias, Ferrari 360 and a C7 Stingray Corvette. Without much warning, we passed our destination. The lead car in our group was convinced we had to keep going, but we turned around and made our way back to the Glacier Skywalk in Jasper National Park.

We took a break from our cars to walk out on the Skywalk, which extended off the side of a cliff. With literally 1,000 meters below us, looking down through the glass floor was quite the experience. From the Skywalk we could see the glacial ice fields, the valleys below and plenty of stunning scenery.

Before long we got back in our cars and headed to Banff for the final destination of the day. For this leg we hopped in a Gamballa/Techart Porsche 911 Turbo. With the black R8 in front of us and a blue Aston Martin DB9 and Maserati Cambicorsa behind us, we made excellent time to the world-renowned town of Banff Alberta.

With an exhilarating adventure behind us, the evening would play host to many stories from the day’s drive. With many new friends made and one epic driving adventure behind us, we thank ZR Auto for inviting us on this fun-filled adventure.
