Mercedes-GLC-Coupe-Concept-5

Prior to its world debut at the Shanghai Auto Show 2015, official images of the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe Concept have leaked online after the embargo was broken by an Italian automotive publication.

Designed to rival the BMW X4, the GLC Coupe Concept follows on from the recently-revealed Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. As such it features a design reminiscent of the GLE albeit on a slightly smaller scale. What that means is that the front end includes large air intakes as well as an eye-catching front splitter element on the bumper.

Elsewhere, a sloping roofline can be found alongside heavily tinted windows. At the rear, these pictures showcase slim horizontal taillights as well as a stacked quad exhaust system reminiscent of the Ferrari California, Lexus IS F and Lexus RC F. Mercedes-Benz has already confirmed that the GLC Coupe Concept is close to production ready but it remains unclear if these exhausts will be maintained.

While sharing the GLC name with the larger SUV model set to also debut in the near future, the GLC Coupe will be significantly smaller. With that in mind, it will be underpinned by the same architecture as the W205-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Beneath the skin, we can expect the same line-up of engines for the GLC Coupe as the GLC SUV. As such, engines including a small 1.8-litre petrol four-cylinder, 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel and a hybrid powertrain are all likely.
