Mercedes-AMG GT S Safety Car front

The Mercedes-AMG GT S already acts as the official Formula 1 safety car and now another GT S safety car has been unveiled for Germany’s DTM racing series. The new sports car will make its DTM safety car debut at this weekend’s round in Lausitz and it will replace the C63 AMG Black Series currently being used.

In typical safety car fashion, it includes a prominent light bar mounted to the roof and has been adorned with the Edition 1 aerodynamics package. Additionally, a whole host of stickers are found throughout as are green rear license plate lights. Behind the wheel will be racing driver Jurgen Kastenholz.

Unsurprisingly, the Mercedes-AMG GT S DTM safety car features the same mechanicals as the road car. That means it features a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine delivering 510 hp and 650 Nm of torque. When combined with an overall weight of 1540 kg, the German sports car accelerates to 100 km/h in a brisk 3.8 seconds as well as a 310 km/h top speed!
