Porsche teases new sports car following Le Mans

Just after claiming victory at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans, Porsche posted a picture on its popular Facebook page showing a brand new sports car from the German automaker.

Details about the new Porsche in question are non-existent with the image itself only showing the car under a sheet reading ‘Mission: Future Sportscar.’ Design wise, key features of the car are hard to decipher but aggressively flared wheel arches can be seen at the rear. A relatively short bonnet is also visible.

If the car pictured is indeed of a brand new production model rather than a concept, it could be Porsche’s long rumoured rival to the Ferrari 488 GTB and McLaren 650S designed to sit between the Porsche 911 Turbo and range-topping 918 Spyder hybrid hypercar. If indeed created to rival Ferrari’s and McLaren’s offerings, the new Porsche would likely be mid-engined, feature forced induction as well as rear-wheel drive.

Additionally, the new Porsche could be based around a lightweight aluminium platform and is likely to debut sometime before 2017.
