During last weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed 2015, a 1984 Porsche 911 owned by James May managed to sell for a touch over £50,000. That comes despite the fact that pre-auction estimates suggested the classic German sports car would sell for between £28,000 and £33,000. Perhaps a James May fan bought the car?

Following the auction, May said “As a 911, it’s significant for being near the tail-end of the development of the original 1963 car. As a piece of social history, since it’s Guards Red and has the sports pack, it stands as a monument to everything 1980s Britain was about.”

For the last few years, May’s 911 Carrera has been cared for by his father and despite being over 30 years only, it has only travelled 55,000 miles. As a result of its low mileage and its meticulous owner, it appears to be in excellent condition for its age.
