Mercedes-AMG GT3 spy shots from the Nurburgring front

New Mercedes-AMG GT3 spy shots have emerged straight from the Nurburgring. The release of these latest images come less than a week after Mercedes-AMG teased a potent new model, believed to be the AMG GT3 pictured.

If reports are to be believed, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 road car will take inspiration from the race-spec AMG GT3 and sit above the GT S in the range. However, it won’t remain at the top of the range forever and is expected to be outpaced by a Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series model further down the road.

Compared to existing AMG GT variants, this test mule is easily distinguishable. For starters, the front fascia has been revised to now incorporate an aggressive splitter and a set of downforce-generation canards. Additionally, new aerodynamic fins can be found on the front wheel arches while at the rear, a large fixed wing has also been installed.

Unlike the race-spec Mercedes-AMG GT3, the road-car won’t make use of the German marque’s outgoing 6.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8 engine. Instead, it will utilise the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 currently used by the AMG GT and GT S albeit tuned to deliver around 550 hp.

When previously speaking with Road and Track, AMG powertrain boss Christian Enderle confirmed that new turbochargers will be installed to reach the 550 hp mark. This is because the current turbos from the GT S are already operating at their limit to deliver 503 hp.
