Our database problems came at one of the worst possible times this year. Carbon Black 2008 jetted off on the 3rd October for a week of supercar and party excess. In true Carbon Black style the grid was packed with 30 of the world’s most expensive and exclusive supercars. Among the entries were a Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Murcielago, a number of McLaren SLR’s including a 722 edition and 911 turbo’s. Our friends from Tangospeed.com took part in a 911 Turbo, there was even live footage streamed from one of the staff cars.
Having limited our coverage of this years Carbon Black to the forum for technical reasons, we thought we’d make it up to you in a series of summary articles. The first of which will show you the fantastic grid of 26 cars that took part.
Without a doubt the best supercar rally from the past two years, Carbon Black, won’t take place as scheduled in May of this year. But instead it’s moved to the fall; from 28th of September until the 3rd of October 2008 the Carbon Black will once again head out to Eastern Europe for an adrenaline rushed week. The organisers also decided to cut down the number of entrants from 60 back to 30 teams. This to guarentee they can deliver the highest standard of service to all the participating teams and have a amazing experience with like-minded petrolheads.
After a roaring 2006, doing Gumball, CB and a lot of parties, Tangospeed returned from a refreshing snowcamp in March ready to rumble again. The cars tuned, wrapped and serviced for a new season filled with rallies. This year promises to be more intense then ever for team Tangospeed with two rallies and a load of parties in just three weeks!
Tangospeed kicks off this rally season at 28th of April in London for the second CB. Two weeks and almost 4000 miles later they burn their rubber at the new Top Run rally organised by the guys of GT3000. During their time on the road you can read all the latest news and gossip on their SMS blog!
To let you know what’s happening at GTspirit this year we made a promo video for all the road rallies you can enjoy here in 2007. We kick off with Gumball 3000 and our friends of Tangospeed on Carbon Black from 28th of April until the 5th of May. Soon followed by our journey on Top Run and coverage of the Bullrun. Later this year we cross the Atlantic again to cover the Great American Run from Miami to Los Angeles. And before the 2007 turns into 2008 we keep you updated on the Unlimited Class during La Carrera Panamericana in November. And that’s not all, stay tuned for more!
With the new edition of Carbon Black less then 2 months away we made a compilation video of the 2006 Carbon Black rally to get you back in the mood for more!
Big thanks to Tangospeed and the others who supplied us with additional videos and photos for this Carbon Black compilation video.
With the new year just around the corner Carbon Black revealed some of their plans for 2007 to us. The next event will be a rally crossing through 10 countries in Eastern and Southern Europe. Carbon Black 2007 will kick off on the 28th of April and finish the 4th of May. The next Carbon Black has 60 spots on the grid, so more people get a chance to experience it. But it remains invite only to keep the quality up. Carbon Black will be hosting a big launch party on the day prior to the start, a day off to relax and experience things other then driving and finally a wrap party all with amazing themes and beautiful people. Carbon Black promises it to be even better then the last run, they have listened to the previous drivers feedback and used it to bring the event to the next level.
Last weekend Team Tangospeed premiered the movie they made during Carbon Black! It’s the first big movie from Carbon Black and we are impressed. They certainly had a great time and know how to party! Visit the Tangospeed website for downloads and photos!
Carbon Black released the intro video that was shown at the pre-start dinner of the first Carbon Black run. It’s a great intro to what became the best drivers could expect from a road rally thusfar. It also gives an insight in what drives Paul Naden (Nods) and his crew!
After a solid start with the first Carbon Black rally in October, Carbon Black is ready to stir up the supercar scene with 4 new exclusive Carbon Black events next year. The two major events will feature a rally in Eastern Europe (28th April - 4th May 2007) and an event elsewhere in the world in fall 2007.
There are also two smaller events taking place next year but we are waiting for further details to be released. One thing is clear, Carbon Black is here to stay.
After a 30 minute delay at the Swiss / French border we were off into France. Not long after we left the border the Porsche ‘Kool It’ guys decided it wasn’t going fast enough and overtook the rest of the pack, they immediatly got flashed. After a 20 minute drive along the southern side of lake Geneva I switched with Joe and with Joe behind the wheel I was able to do some filming. Not long after our switch we entered Switserland again and passed a bunch of other Carbon Black teams filling up their cars with Swiss petrol.
After the first checkpoint at the Swiss - Italian border crossing the Carbon Black teams received a new routecard that pointed them towards Rosignano-Monferrato, a small mountain village west of Milan. After a nice downhill run with the Bentley, SLR and M5 we stopped to take the top down and catched up with the Porsche Carrera GT (Team 007) and the black F430 (Team 11).
