Essen Motorshow 2008

Reiter engineering are famed mostly for their Lamborghini Murcielago and Gallardo race car variants. They surprised us somewhat at the Essen Motor show however by showing a road legal car. Detailed pictures of the tuning to this Murcielago later appeared on LamboPower.com where we also learn that this car is for sale after the show has finished.

We all know that pimping and tuning our cars is a boys dream. A dream we probarly start with a nice German car like a Volkswagen Golf or an Audi A3. Not everybody is that fortunate to drive an exclusive supercar and take that along to any of the big tuners like EDO Competition, Mansory or TechArt. We have to start somewhere you know.

However there is a new car in town that will start to appear in several of those dreams of boys and perhaps girls. It is not a sportscar, nor a brand new supercar, not even with a special badge on it. It is called the Scirocco and we managed to photograph at least 20! tuned versions of this new uber-Volkswagen at the Essen Motorshow.

Two weeks after the first image of the new 9ff flagship showed up, we got a chance to take a closer look at the 9ff GT9-R at the Essen Motorshow. The car shown in Essen is slightly different from the image presented earlier, it’s missing the roofscoop and the small cuts in the bodywork, but that aside the 9ff GT9-R has got everything to make it go fast including a 1120 hp / 1050Nm engine and aerodynamical changes to make it stick to the ground at speeds that even lift a fully loaded Boeing 747 off the ground easily.

We can now also show you the rear of the 9ff GT9-R. The new GT9-R has a partly open rear similar to it’s predecessor the 9ff GT9. The GT9 had an open rear for improved aerodynamics, the new GT9-R has a smaller open rear but 9ff added a carbon fibre spoiler and huge full size diffuser to the back of the car to improve high speed stability and downforce even further.

As you all may know the Essen motorshow is all about tuning and pimping cars. Which isn’t the complete deal. Car manufacturers like Volkswagen, Seat and Audi show their latest line-up of regular cars with enhanced engines, interior packages and exterior trim.

The most important part of the show was the introduction of the customer race version of the well-known Audi R8. The official name of the new GT3-spec racing car is R8 LMS, named after the Le Mans Series - one of the four major championships Audi won this year.

If you are willing to spend around 260.000 euros (excluding taxes), a track-ready R8 is yours. Its mid-mounted V10 produces more than 500 bhp and more than 500 NM. If you as manufacturer want to compete in a GT3-championship, you need to have a street legal version of your racing car. This means that after the R8 LMS introduction a V10 version of the “standard” R8 is rather close by.

Today is the official start of the Essen Motorshow 2008, the show for tuning and autosport fans. We visited Essen yesterday to bring you this preview of what you can expect at Essen this year. Traditionally the Essen Motorshow is home to most major German tuners like ABT, Hamann, Brabus, Techart, 9ff, PPI and many more.
