The Audi R8 of Gumball 3000 team Driver Side just witnessed the crash of a Ford Excursion with a trailer just north of Calafia on the I-5. The Ford Excursion lost control, spun and the trailer flipped over. According to police sources on sight 2 other vehicles crashed into the Ford Excursion but all drivers and passengers were unharmed.
In the crash, that was captured on film by team Driver Side, were no Gumballers involved. The I-5 is blocked due to the crash and other Gumball 3000 participants will have to find an alternative route. Watch the video of the crash below:
David Hasselhoff entered the Gumball 3000 with his legendary buddy KITT from the Knight Rider. David Hasselhoff also brought his Audi R8 to the start of the rally and picked the Audi supercar to drive the first leg in. KITT was said to have some technical hiccups and arrived at the checkpoint in Hollywood a bit later.
‘The Hoff’ hooked a little camera up to the net and filmed his journey from San Francisco to Los Angeles on the Gumball 3000. Watch the video below!
With a 45 minute delay the Gumball 3000 kicked off in downtown San Francisco this afternoon. The first checkpoint of the day is at Buttonwillow Raceway along the I-5 interstate. After a couple laps on the track the rally will continue to the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles. There the cars will be on display at Hollywood Boulevard from 8pm onwards. Video of the Bentley Continental GT Convertible (Team 32) being pulled over by the police. The two American Porsche Turbo’s (Team 23 & 84) can continue without a problem. The police was very strict on the way to Dover and at some point slowed down all traffic on the highway by driving with two police cars next to eachother below the speed limit.
The Gumball 3000 was back on VTM this weekend. Last year the Belgian TV station VTM reported about the previous edition of the rally, and they still call it a race and mess up their facts and figures. But the funny thing about this years report is that one Ferrari got away with doing 227 km/h because the police was to busy fining other Gumballers.

Team Fuel just released their first video! Richie, Gerry and the Fuel Girls are on their way to Athens to get united again with their Mansory Bentley Continental GT. In the video Richie takes you to his Fuel store and shows you the Mansory Phantom and tells you about the rest of the cars, new girl Zara interviews Maximillion and a lot of random clips from the start:
We just received an update from Team 50. They are on their way to Athens right now with all the other Gumballers, and get wait to get their car back. They had a great time during the first leg from London to Amsterdam but then the German police spoiled the party a bit. Here’s their first video from the German highway.
Team 73 was the highlight of todays RTL news bulletin. Their car was impounded after reckless driving and speeding in excess of 200 km/h. The police used one of their feared undercover camera cars to chase the Gumballers. In the video below you can see Team 73 on the way to Amsterdam, they had no idea they were followed by an undercover police car. Thanks to our friends of Autogespot for capturing the video!
To put the film coverage to a new level, Gumball 3000 Films hired a Helicopter Team called Air Gumball. Team Air Gumball will follow the rally from Istanbul to Berlin. The Film crew will be teaming up with @-VISER, Pro7/Sat1 and MyVideo to bring you the amazing footage the record from of the event. Patrick Fischer, Head of Production at Gumball 3000 Films says ‘this is the first time that we have a helicopter following the rally. The chopper we’ve got is a $6 million Bell fitted with the latest in camera and mobile broadcasting technologies, so the footage we’re going to get this year will be mind-blowing!’ Watch out for exclusive helicopter footage on TV (at Pro7 and Sat1 in Germany) and you can also see the footage online at Myvideo.de and Metacafe.

Metacafe opened their Gumball 3000 video channel a couple days ago. This channel is part of the partnership between Gumball 3000, Adidas and Metacafe. It enables the fans, drivers and Gumball 3000 crew to upload their videos and creations to Metacafe. Of course it’s not just another Youtube because by uploading videos to the channel at metacafe you can win Gumball 3000 prizes.
