Sport Car Spring Rally 2008

Over 180 sportscars gathered this weekend for the 6th annual Sport Car Spring Rally. Starting and finishing in Maastricht it set out a route to discover the best roads in the area. The rally was held in a way similar to classic car rallies: at the startline a routebook with instructions in ball / arrow format was handed to the participants. All classic and modern sportscars were placed in either the tour or sport class. The list of sportscars participating included many classic and modern supercars including a couple McLaren SLR’s, Lamborghini Murcielago’s, BMW Z1’s, Porsche 997 GT3 RS, Porsche 997 Turbo, Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, a rare Invicta S1, a Bentley Speed Six Special and an Aston Martin DB2/4!

Arabrun 2008

Last friday the Arabrun 2008 took over Dubai! For the second year in a row this event brought together some of the most expensive and powerful supercars on the planet for a one-day driving event. Visiting most of Dubai and it’s surroundings, the cars drew a crowd at almost every intersection. Among the cars entered were a Bugatti Veyron, Carrera GT, Mansory Continental GTC, McLaren SLR Roadster and many many more exotics! Sadly one of the Murcielago Roadsters didn’t survive a short encounter with one of Dubai’s many high curbs but other than that the event went flawless.

The Arabrun is an annual driving event that takes the drivers through Dubai and over the most beautiful roads in the United Arab Emirates. This year all cars headed to Emirates Motorplex venue for a dragrace. In between the driving breakfast, lunch and dinner were served in quality hotels and restaurants in the area and the Arabrun 2008 finished in C-Bar Crystal night club with a VIP party. Next year we will definately be there to bring a live report!

Baja 1000 2007

The Baja1000 is one of the thoughest and most hardcore rallies on the planet. It’s an off-road race that takes place on Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula. The event includes various types of vehicle classes such as small and large bore motorcycles, stock VW, production vehicles, buggies, trucks, and custom fabricated race vehicles. The course has remained relatively the same over the years with the majority of events being either a point to point race from Ensenada to La Paz, or a loop race starting and finishing in Ensenada. The name of the event is misleading as the mileage varies for the type of event (loop or point to point) and has represented kilometers in the past.

Baja 1000

Our friends from Team Darkcyd are searching for two participants, who are joining the Team Darkcyd Team during the Baja 1000.
The Baja 1000 is an off-road race that takes place on Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula. This years Baja 1000 starts at the 10th November and ends at the 16th November 2007.

A call out for adventure seekers in once in a time lifetime opportunity. While we just finished the Players Run and had a great time racing from Calgary to Cabo but the adventure never stops and been preparing for the next experience.
As most of you are aware I did the Baja 1000 in 05 and had an experience I will not forget. If any of you saw the Movie Dust to Glory you have a good idea of just what an adventure this is.
This year is a special Baja top to bottom anniversary ending in Cabo San Lucas and I have a brand new truck to do it in, but need 2 seats to complete the team. Cost is $10k per seat.

Ferrari Challenge 2007 on Dutch TV

Undercover Golf R32 stops 4 Ferrari's

A couple days ago Dutch tv-show Wegmisbruikers showed four exclusive Ferrari’s that participated in the private Ferrari Challenge 2007 on the A79 highway leading out of Maastricht. Two weeks ago Wegmisbruikers showed a crazy Porsche GT3 driver that first tried to lose the chasing undercover police car and then crashed the precious Porsche. This time it was a Ferrari Enzo, Ferrari F50, Ferrari 360 Modena Spider and a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti that drove slightly faster then the allowed maximum speed. An undercover police Golf R32, modified so it looks like a regular Golf, followed them for a while and then stopped them after they clocked the drivers at an average speed of 195 km/h. Four driver licenses were confiscated but thanks to a good lawyer they were returned a mere two days later.

The end of the video shows Dutch transportation official Koos Spee in ‘discussion’ with the presenter AndrĂ© van der Toorn about events that visit the Dutch roads with fast and exotic cars clearly referring to the Gumball 3000 that had a checkpoint in Amsterdam in May of this year. Koos Spee states the Dutch authorities are looking into these events and will try even harder to prevent exotics from speeding on the Dutch roads in the future.

FB5K diary: The Alpine Rally

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

Our new GTspirit.com member Limahl shared one of the best and most comprehensive write-ups in our Furball 5000 forum.
We are happy to share this great diary now with you! Thanks again to Limahl!

Day 1 Saturday 7th July 2007

All our bags are packed loaded into the car ready for the off. The fuel tank was already full. We went to bed at 1.30am, set the clock to go off two hours later. It seemed like only a few minutes before the clock goes off, get up in a semi state of sleep and jump in the shower to wake up. The adrenaline was now starting to flow as the excitement was building up. Couldn’t wait to get going and see what the next seven days had in store. So at 4am, my wife Wendy, my son Brendan and I headed out to the car. God, 117 decibels is loud at 4am, thought I better get away quick before I annoy the neighbours. So there we are, Wendy squashed up in the back and Brenny and I in the front heading for the M1.

We were due at Brands Hatch at 6am where everyone was meeting up. At that time of the morning the M1 and the M25 were clear so it didn’t take long to get there. We pulled intro the car park to be met by about another twenty odd cars; people were huddled around chatting together. The arrival of my car made people look up, or it could be that it was a pink car or then again it just might be my good looks, err… maybe not.

Trackday at the Nurburgring

Trackdays.de organised a very succesful trackday at the Nurburgring Nordschleife yesterday. From 8 AM till 2 PM the track was reserved for the 40 cars that signed up for the trackday. The straight was open so the drivers could take their cars to the maximum on the long straight, an opportunity you won’t get when the track is open for tourists. Among the participants were 2 Porsche Carrera GT’s, 2 brand new GT3 RS’s, a Lamborghini Gallardo, a rare Mercedes CLK-DTM, a Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, a couple handsful of Porsches and a lot of other lovely toys. Top Run organisers and GT3000 members PCP and Nitro were there with their Porsche GT3 and Lamborghini Gallardo. Top Run participant DMC worked on his lines at the Green hell with his M3 CSL. You can read his story below!

Tangospeed Snowcamp

The Tangospeed Snowcamp continued with more fun in the snow! Levi is a great location for snowmobiling with over 800 kilometers of snowmobile tracks in the area. For everybody who haven’t had the experience of driving a snowmobile before, we can tell you it’s extremely fast and breathtaking. 0-100 km/h in less then 3 seconds and a topspeed of over 140 km/h. It gives such a thrill if you drive over frozen lakes and rivers and on small roads through the forrest.

Auto RAI 2007

Today was the start of the Auto RAI 2007! Thursdays the doors of the biggest carshow of the Netherlands that happens only once every two years will open for public. Until 9th of April everybody can see a range of exclusive cars. Previous editions of the Auto RAI were held in February before the Autosalon of Geneva, this year it’s held as first major carshow after the Autosalon of Geneva which means a lot of cars that made their debut in Geneva are also shown on the Auto RAI this year. Visit our Autorai gallery for all our photos!

Our highlights:

Maserati Gran Turismo:

We liked the car we first saw the photos, but in real life it’s even better. It’s an instant classic and thumbs up to Maserati for the new design. Hopefully it handles the same way it looks! It’s very sharp and great edge.

Porsche GT3 RS:

Although the Porsche stand was really boring, with two versions of the facelifted Porsche Cayenne as highlight, other stands made up for it. Highlight for us was this Porsche GT3 RS brought to the Auto RAI by dutch car magazine Autovisie.

Tangospeed Snowcamp

Yesterday the Tangospeed snowcamp kicked off! Together with Hece, Tango, Joe, Lars, Jarmo and of course Mika we drove from Oulu in Finland to an icetrack just south of the artic circle. There were a couple cars waiting for us to be driven around the track. Mika and Hece jumped in and it didn’t take longer then one lap before Hece got stuck. Due to recent warm weather the icetrack looked more like a swimming pool on some stretches. Careful drivers as we are it didn’t take long before both cars crashed and got so stuck in the snow that only a tractor could save us:
