Mercedes-Benz willing to buy McLaren

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

McLaren SLR 722

Our source at Autoblog found out that Mercedes-Benz is planning to buy share in McLaren. When they asked for verification they simply got the answer: ”No comment”. Daimler has already 40 % in his hands, the onther 60 % are shared between team principal Ron Dennis and his Saudi business partner Mansour Ojjeh (at 15% each) and Bahraini holding company Mumtalakat, to which Dennis and Ojjeh sold 30% last year. Daimler therefore has the largest interest in McLaren, but if it wanted to take complete control it would have to negotiate with the three other shareholders, or else take controlling interest of 55 or 70% by buying out either Dennis, Ojjeh or the Bahraini partners.

Supercar Of The Year 2007

About two weeks ago we opened a poll, in our forum, to find out what the supercar of the year 2007 would be. To clear out any possible misunderstanding, all supercars that firstly hit the road as well as the supercars shown in worldpremière to the public during 2007 on numurous car shows, were elected. The 10th option was ‘other cars’ because the list of stunning cars was just too long to get in one poll, thinking of the Porsche 911 GT2 and the Aston Martin DBS.

The winner clearly became the on a fighter jet based Lamborghini Reventón, with about 21.5% of the votes. The second place was for the other Italian supercar, the Ferrari F430 Scuderia. The top-three was closed with the Mclaren Mercedes SLR-Roadster. After the jump you can find the complete top 10.
