Wiesmann to introduce Wiesmann MF4 and MF5 Roadster at Geneva Auto Salon 2009

Wiesmann MF5 Roadster

Martin and Friedhelm Wiesmann told us some more exciting news during our tour of their new production facility today. They will show their new Wiesmann MF4 and MF5 roadsters at the 2009 Geneva Auto Salon.

The Wiesmann MF4 Roadster will run on the same 4.8 liter V8 from BMW that can also be found in the MF4 GT, good for 367 hp and a topspeed of 290 km/h. It’s big brother, the Wiesmann MF5 Roadster, will run on the famous BMW 5.0 liter V10 engine that made it’s name already in the M5, M6 and Wiesmann GT MF5. This is the ultimate engine for the top end roadster in the Wiesmann range. The 507 hp strong V10 is capable of pushing the Wiesmann GT from zero to 100 in 3,9 seconds and keeps going until reaching the topspeed of 310 km/h.

The introduction of the MF4 and MF5 Roadster doesn’t mean the production of the popular MF3 Roadster will be stopped. According to Martin Wiesmann the MF3 will stay in production next to the new roadsters. Wiesmann also announced the introduction of a driverairbag at the GT models and a number of modifications to the MF3.

Bad news for all the Wiesmann fans in the United States: due to the high costs involved with getting the Wiesmann’s tested, modified and accepted for the American roads and the high exchange rate, an introduction in the United States is not likely to happen on the short term. But Wiesmann will keep exploring the options for a possible introduction of one or more of their models on the US market that could boost their production to as much as 500 cars a year.

New Wiesmann Production Facility

New Wiesmann Production facility

This weekend Wiesmann opens their new production facitily in the German town of DĂĽlmen. Today we had a unique chance to look at their brand new facility from literally every angle. In 2005 the founding brothers Martin and Friedhelm Wiesmann decided the time was right to develop a new production facility for their Wiesmann Roadster and GT. Growing from 50 produced cars in 2003 to 191 in 2007 their timing for the new production facility was exactly right to increase the capacity from 200 cars a year to 350 cars a year and set a production target of 250 cars for the year 2008.

The most remarkable thing about the new production facility is the giant Gecko, the company logo of Wiesmann, that’s part of the building. The gecko, 110 meter long and 15 meter high, is completely made from wood and inside the gecko you can find the showroom with room for at least 20 cars. Wiesmann was kind enough to hire a helicopter to give us a good look at the gecko from up in the air. Due to rain at the moment we went up in the air to circle the building and surroundings, most photos are blurred but we can tell you it’s a very impressive building from both the ground as up in the sky.

Wiesemann GT MF 5

Here are the official pictures of the Wiesmann GT MF 5. The colour is extreme but it suits the extreme car well. The weight of this Wiesmann bullit is 1400 kg instead of the 1250 kg mentioned before. The new Wiesmann GT MF5 will be running on the well-known BMW M5/6 V10 engine with 507bhp and 520 Nm of torque. This results in a zero to 62 mph sprint in just under 4 seconds (3.9 sec). The car tops out just shy of the magic 200 mph mark; 194 mph (310 kmh). The new Wiesmann GT MF 5 is yours for 178 000 euro.

Wiesmann GT MF 5

Wiesemann GT

Wiesmann has confirmed to present an even better GT, now called the GT MF 5 CoupĂ© and will be shown at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the first major update for the model since its introduction almost two years ago. Under the long and impressive hood will breath the same 507 bhp V10 found in the potent BMW’s M5 and M6.

With a weight of just 1,250kg, a Wiesmann GT packing the 5.0L V10 engine would offer a significant leap in performance compared with the 362 bhp currently available. Expect performance to better the current car’s 0 - 62 mph (0-100kmh) sprint in only 4.6 seconds and top speed of 175 mph (280km/h).
