The constant tweaks to Porsche’s model line appear to be paying dividends for the company. This years updates to the 997 Carrera S model attracted the attention of the judging panel for the International Engine of the Year Awards who gave it the coveted ‘Best New Engine Of The Year’ award.

The 3.8L flat-six was praised for it’s performance as well as its efficiency and driveability. The engine manages to get 23mpg despite putting down a healthy 380bhp (10.2L/100km). That’s an 8.5% increase in power and a 13% reduction in fuel consumption.
