Two confirmed Manchester icons are trading England’s rainy northwest for the open roads of Europe as they prepare to take part in the Cannonball 2000 supercar challenge. Welterweight boxer Ricky Hatton and television star Ryan Thomas will be traveling 2,000 miles across Europe in their sleek machines in aid of a charity providing activities and days out for terminally ill children.

Ryan Thomas – who will be behind the wheel of a black Maserati – described his excitement to be taking part in the event; “I am very excited, especially as we are doing it for such a good cause,” he said. “The first leg is 800 miles to Barcelona and there will be a closing party at the finish in Paris. It’s not a driving competition, more of a driving experience.”

The event runs until September 9th and passes through Barcelona, Milan and Paris on a whistle-stop tour of Western Europe.
