Video: 2013 Ferrari 458 Spider vs 2008 Ferrari 430 Scuderia

Racing a 2013 Ferrari 458 Spider against a 2008 Ferrari 430 Scuderia in a rolling drag race may initially seem completely unfair. However, despite their dramatically different engines and the five years which separate them, the two Italian supercars are still very closely related.

The 2008 Ferrari 430 Scuderia features an uprated version of the 4.3-liter V8 engine found in the regular Ferrari F430. However, this potent, high-revving powerplant has been uprated to now produce 508rpm at an insane 8500rpm. Combine that with a rear wheel drive system and an advanced semi-automatic six-speed transmission which can shift in just 60 milliseconds, and the technology behind the Ferrari 430 Scuderia still makes it an extremely impressive beast to this very day.

Fast forward a few years, and we come to the Ferrari 458 Spider. The Ferrari 458 Spider features the same 4.5-liter V8 engine as the standard Ferrari 458 Italia and therefore produces an equal 570hp. Despite weighing slightly more than the Ferrari 458 Italian coupe, the Spider still hit 62mph in 3.4 seconds and has a lower top speed of 198mph.

As a result, the Ferrari 458 Spider represents the more luxurious side of the Ferrari 458 line-up, while the Ferrari 430 Scuderia showcases one of the most hardcore road-going Ferrari’s ever produced. But just which one will win in an epic drag race?
