A few days ago, an interesting Mercedes-Benz SLK prototype was spied testing. Despite that test mule looking like a run-of-the-mill SLK, reports indicate that it was in fact a prototype for the upcoming next-gen SLC. Now its bigger brother, the SL, has been spied in facelifted form.

Compared to current SL models on streets around the world, the following car has been fitted with brand new headlights which are very similar to those from the S-Class Coupe and could in fact be the exact same units considering they don’t fit within the front bumper or quarter panel correctly.

Beyond the new headlights which will make use of Mercedes-Benz’s new Multibeam LED technology, the facelifted SL likely to arrive in 2015 will feature an updated interior while tweaks to the range of engines are also expected.

Mercedes-Benz will provide the current R231 SL with a front- and rear redesign to boost the sales of its two-seater GT.
